He has managed to play with the seat reservation system.
Choosing plane seats can be a pain – but travel influencer Jordan Tually says he’s come up with a way to avoid getting stuck in the middle seat without paying a fee.
“This travel hack has saved me from MANY middle places over the years,” the content creator declared in a viral Instagram video to his 450,000+ followers. “It’s actually never failed me and has a 100% perfect track record when done right!”
The viral clip shows Tually checking in online for a Ryanair flight from Bologna, Italy to Barcelona, Spain, on which he would normally have to pay an extra $9 to choose his seat – something he wanted to avoid.
Unfortunately, not paying the fare and going the seat roulette route would have been a gamble, as the flight had 10 open seats in the middle – often voted the worst on the plane along with the windowless window seats.
Fortunately, the influencer avoided the minefield of the middle seat for free pretending to purchase remaining center air chairs.
“Now the website will ask for each passenger’s name, so you just slap a bunch of cards in there and move on,” Taully explained as he claimed to have bought 10 plane tickets.
“Next, go to seat selection and select all the middle seats or all the seats you definitely don’t want to sit in,” he explained. “Then click ‘continue’.”
Jorden explained that Ryanair’s website will “hold” those seats for approximately 10 minutes, which is when you need to return to legitimately purchase your current ticket.
“When you go to check in with your ticket, you can see that there are no more seats in the middle,” he explained. “So click that random seat allocation – and just like that. It only took me two minutes and now I have a window seat.”
The flight hacker added in the caption that this shortcut is “easier when done on a computer and even easier if you do it closer to check-in as there are fewer seats available.”
Armchair travelers were impressed that Tually managed to figuratively have his cake and eat it too.
“Damn this is a genius! “Any victory over Ryanair is a victory for humanity,” said one fan.
“This is such a useful hack, we hope they don’t catch on,” declared another frugal flyer.
However, others argued that Tually should not have posted the tutorial because Ryanair would inevitably catch on.
“This should be kept,” declared one viewer.
A suspected Ryanair employee claimed they had already raised the alarm, saying: “I’m a product owner working for Ryanair and I’ve just created a ticket to prevent this kind of behaviour. Thanks for reporting!”
Meanwhile, many felt the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.
“This is not a hack. It’s cheap as fk,” said an armchair traveler. “If you focus so much energy on making more money, you’d be flying first class.”
