Flight Attendant Reveals 8 Hacks for Stress-Free, Cheaper Vacation Travel

It’s the holiday season, which means people are traveling at higher rates – and paying a lot to do so.

Luckily, Esther Sturrus, a flight attendant who shares her knowledge on TikTok, has revealed her top tips for scoring a cheaper flight during this busy season.

Sturrus, 23, recommends paying attention to travel dates and choosing to fly in the middle of the week.

“Book midweek flights as they tend to be cheaper than weekend departures,” she told What’s The Jam. “You can also set up rate alerts to quickly catch any price drops.â€

Being adaptable with both your travel dates and how you get to your final stop is another of the Dutch-based flight attendant’s top tips. For example, opting for a connecting flight instead of a direct flight can save you a significant amount.

“Be flexible with your dates and destination,” she added. “Sometimes a difference of a day or so can save you a lot.”

Some airlines also have hidden discounts when you book through their app, the KLM Airlines employee revealed.

“Always make sure to compare prices between the website and the app,” she advised.

Sturrus also shared tips on how to stay calm and reduce stress during the chaos of holiday travel.

For those traveling with gifts, “consider sending them ahead to avoid bulky baggage or customs issues,” she said.

“And when you pack for your trip, try to pack smart,” she added. “Keep your essentials in your carry-on, especially for long-haul flights.â€

She also said it’s helpful to arrive at the airport early “to reduce stress and allow time for unexpected delays.”

Noise-cancelling headphones are one thing you should always have on hand, Sturrus advised.

“They’ve been a game changer for me this year, especially on busy flights,” she said.

Finally, Sturrus said “it’s always helpful to use airline apps to stay up-to-date on flight changes and check in quickly.”

She noted that many airlines like to embrace the holiday spirit and encourage passengers to do the same, despite all the commotion.

“Holiday travel can be stressful, but it’s also a time to make memories,” she said. “Remember to relax, enjoy the ride and embrace the festive atmosphere, whether you’re at the airport or on the plane.”
